Strong Finish to a Record-Setting First Half of 2021

Delaware saw Acker’s second Delaware auction this month and last of the season realize US$5.1 Million in Sales, with 98% of the lots sold, in a strong finish to what has been a record-setting first half of 2021. Burgundy showed it was still the boss of the market, accounting for 44% of all dollars and 28 out of the Top 30 highest-grossing lots of the sale. Twenty-two of those lots were wines from Domaines de la Romanee Conti and Leroy, and one-third of overall dollars went to overseas buyers, as global demand remains at a fever pitch for fine and rare wines.

DRC and Leroy dominated the Top Ten Lots, with an original wood case of 1996 Domaine de la Romanee Conti assortment seizing first place with a price of $59,760. An original wood case of 2000 Leroy Clos Vougeot took the second prize at $49,800, while third place saw the same of 1998 tie with a magnum of 1976 DRC Romanee Conti at $47,310 a piece. Bordeaux made one appearance in the Top Ten, with four bottles of exceedingly rare 1982 Le Pin achieving $37,350. Sixth place was a three-way tie, with six bottles of Domaine d’Auvenay (Leroy) Bonnes Mares, an original twelve-bottle case of 2016 Coche-Dury Meursault Perrieres, and nine bottles of 2004 Leroy Vosne Romanee all achieving $32,370. There was also a three-way tie for eighth place, giving Acker a true Top Eleven, as four bottles of 2015 Comte Liger-Belair La Romanee, six bottles of 2004 d’Auvenay Meursault Pre de Manche, and one bottle of 1971 DRC Romanee-Conti each sold for $29,880.

What is abnormal, or should I say out of the ordinary, are the world’s finest and rarest wines, and more people are discovering and learning this fact every day,” commented Acker Chairman John Kapon. “Demand continues to drive the market at a blistering pace, and I could not be more excited for what is sure to be another special season this Fall.”
